PRP & GFC

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) and GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) are two innovative treatments that harness the body’s natural healing properties to address various medical and aesthetic concerns.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP): PRP therapy involves extracting a small sample of the patient’s blood and centrifuging it to isolate the platelet-rich plasma. Platelets are rich in growth factors and cytokines, which play a crucial role in tissue repair, regeneration, and wound healing. The concentrated PRP is then injected into targeted areas, stimulating cellular proliferation, collagen production, and tissue regeneration.

PRP at our clinic:

Dr. Ravi Sharma has experience of more than ten years and has attended several conference & workshops on blood derivatives. He uses PRP & GFC for:-

  1. Facial Rejuvenation: PRP injections can improve skin texture, tone, and elasticity, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.
  2. Hair Restoration: PRP therapy promotes hair growth by stimulating dormant hair follicles and increasing blood flow to the scalp, resulting in thicker, fuller hair.

Growth Factor Concentrate (GFC): GFC is a concentrated solution containing a combination of growth factors derived from various sources, including platelets, stem cells, and other biological tissues. These growth factors play a crucial role in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue repair processes.

Growth factor concentrates are formulations containing a high concentration of growth factors, which are proteins that play essential roles in cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue repair. These growth factors are often derived from natural sources such as platelets, stem cells, or other biological tissues.

Growth factor concentrates are used in various medical and aesthetic applications, including wound healing, tissue regeneration, and skin rejuvenation. When applied to the target area, they promote the body’s natural healing processes, stimulating the regeneration of tissues and improving overall skin health.

These concentrates can be prepared from a patient’s own blood (autologous) or derived from other sources. They are typically applied topically, injected into the skin, or used in conjunction with other treatments such as microneedling or laser therapy to enhance their effectiveness. In aesthetic medicine, growth factor concentrates are often used to improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and promote hair growth.

PRP and GFC therapies represent cutting-edge approaches to tissue regeneration and rejuvenation, offering versatile solutions for a wide range of medical and aesthetic indications. These treatments continue to evolve, providing new opportunities to enhance patient outcomes and improve quality of life.

Answered by Dr. Ravi Sharma

Q. What is PRP therapy for hair? Other uses of PRP and GFC?
A.PRP therapy for hair is a medical treatment that involves injecting platelet-rich plasma, derived from the patient’s own blood, into the scalp to stimulate hair growth. The PRP or GFC can be used for hair growth or for face for skin rejuvenation, anti ageing, acne scar or melasma.

Q. What is GFC therapy for hair and how different it is from PRP?
A. Both Growth Factor Concentrate (GFC) and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) are blood derived growth factor techniques where the patient’s own blood is subjected to controlled centrifugation process. The centrifugation leads to separation of the different component of blood into RBC, WBC, platelets and plasma. The platelet rich plasma is then injected in the scalp or skin of the patient which causes disruption of platelets and release of various growth factors. These growth factors leads to healing, new blood vessels, collagen and new cell formation. The GFC is advanced PRP kit ensuring better growth factor production as compared to routine PRP tubes.

Q. Who is a good candidate for PRP hair treatment or GFC?
A.PRP therapy  and GFC are typically recommended for individuals experiencing early stages of hair loss or thinning, as well as those with certain types of alopecia. It is not usually recommended for individuals with advanced hair loss or those with medical conditions that affect blood clotting or platelet function.

Q. How many sessions are needed, and how often?
A.The number of PRP sessions needed varies depending on individual factors such as the extent of hair loss and the desired results. Initially, multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart may be recommended, followed by maintenance sessions every few months to sustain results.

Q. Are there any side effects or risks associated with PRP therapy for hair?
A.PRP therapy for hair is generally considered safe when performed by a qualified healthcare professional. However, like any medical procedure, there are potential risks, including minor swelling, bruising, infection, or temporary worsening of hair loss.

Q. What is the cost of PRP and GFC?
A. The cost of PRP at our clinic can be between 2000- 4000Rupees depending on the PRP kit used. The cost of GFC therapy can be between 3000-6000 Rupees depending on the GFC kit.
